Before EVs became popular, supercars had engines with V8, V10, V12, or W16 cylinders. But as engineers and carmakers learned more about electric motors and batteries, they saw how useful they could be.
When cars like the Tesla Model S Plaid came out, EV owners discovered that electric cars could immediately have a lot of power and torque. So, let’s look at the fastest electric cars on the market in 2022 to see how far the electric motor has come.
Porsche Taycan Turbo
The first car on our list is a Porsche, a well-known German sports car brand. The Porsche Taycan was first shown in 2015 as a concept car. In 2019, it finally went into production. This electric vehicle (EV) is a luxury car in two styles: a sedan and a “shooting brake.”

Tesla Model X Plaid
Even though it’s a mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the Tesla Model X Plaid is still one of the fastest EVs on the market. It’s the third model Tesla has made, after the Roadster and the Model S, and the back seats have gull-wing doors. Even though it is big, the Tesla Model X can accelerate from 0 to 60 in as little as 2.5 seconds, which is faster than the smaller Tesla Model 3. It can also go faster, up to 163 mph.
Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance
Like Tesla, many new electric vehicle (EV) companies are trying to make it big, and Lucid Motors is one of them. This electric car company was started in 2007 by people working for Tesla. Since they used to work there, they likely know something about making electric cars. But Lucid didn’t sell its first car, the Lucid Air, until 2021.
This means that it took 14 years from the time Lucid was founded to make a car. Even so, the Lucid Air Dream Edition Achievement had incredible numbers. It has two motors that send power to all four wheels. This lets the car go from 0 to 60 in less than 2.5 seconds. It can go as fast as 169 mph.
NIO EP9
The NIO EP9 is the first electric car from Asia to make this list. This is also the first hypercar on our list since all the other cars were sedans with four doors or SUVs. So far, six EP9s have been sold, and ten more are still on the market. And if you want one, you’ll have to pay £1,155,000.
This electric hypercar can’t be driven on the street. It was made just for the track. It is influenced by four electric motors that are cooled by water. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. It can also go as fast as 194 miles per hour.
Tesla Model S Plaid
The Model S Plaid is the fastest Tesla you can purchase and the top-of-the-line model from Tesla. The Model S Plaid has three motors, one for each front wheel and two for each back wheel. It is the first Tesla to have the controversial yoke and other features only found on the Tesla Model S Plaid. Even though it costs more than $140,000, this luxury full-size sedan has much power. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds and can reach 200 mph at its fastest.
Lotus Evija
The Lotus Evija is the first electric car made by this well-known car company. It is also the second hypercar on our list. Even though the car is limited to 130 units and costs $2.3 million, you can start driving it in many racing games, such as Asphalt 8 and 9, GRID: Legends, CSR Racing 2, Project CARS 3, Forza Horizon 5, and Real Racing 3. The four electric drivetrains, one for each wheel, power the Evija. This allows it to move from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds and reach more than 200 mph speeds.
Pininfarina Battista
The Pininfarina Battista is an electric hypercar that also promises speed and comfort. It is made by the German company Automobili Pininfarina GmbH, which is based in Munich. But the company can be sketched back to Pininfarina SpA, which made the Testarossa, F40, F50, and F12berlinetta for Ferrari. The Battista can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.8 seconds and reach speeds of up to 217 mph, trying to make it one of the quickest EVs you can buy today.
Aspark Owl
The Aspark Owl is the second animal on this list that comes from Asia. It was first discussed as an idea in 2017 and then built as a model in 2019. It finally finished production in 2020, but only 50 cars were made. The car costs €2,500,000 and has a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and a stainless steel structure that holds up the roof. This electric hypercar has four electric engines that help it go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.69 seconds and go as fast as 249 mph.
Rimac Nevera
It is the fastest electric car you can buy right now. The first electric car made by the Croatian company Rimac, the Rimac Concept One, was once named the World’s fastest EV. Since it went into production in 2021, the Rimac Nevera has broken records. It can move from 0 to 60 in 1.85 seconds and has a top speed of 258 mph, allowing Rimac to reclaim the title of having the fastest electric car in the World.
